From Sports To Business In An International Arena – Veronica Augsustsson
One of the things that translates from sports to business is feedback. In sports, when you do something, you instantly learn whether it did or didn’t work, and that’s true of writing code as well. Augustsson believes it should work that way with your business team – you should give your team instant feedback rather than waiting six months. And, like a sports team, you don’t want all your players to have exactly the same skills. It’s important to have people from a variety of backgrounds who think in different ways.
If you want to be the best in the world at what you’re doing, you have to think of your team as competing nationally or internationally, and hire your players from the big leagues. “High performance people like to get involved with other high performance people,” she said.
Augustsson is counting on young people like the ones in the MWE audience, who will be retiring around the year 2070, to change the world with technology. Since nobody knows what the world will look like in 2070, the question is how do we educate for a world when we don’t know what it will look like?
